  • Weekend Picks Dec 29 - 31

Thank god this Christmas hoopla is over—time to get back to the real festivities. Friday 29. Weeeirdos Berghain The weeeirdos are back and taking over the main Berghain floor for one glorious night, bringing some of the biggest names in the queer scene. This lineup is straight out of my dreams: LOLSNAKE, IMOGEN, Nur Jaber... there will be no rest, no sleep, just dancing with the freaks. Come to Bergy baby. There's no better way to see off this shitshow of a year Saturday 30. Discotheque Club Ost This was all I wanted for Christmas—a new queer party on the scene. House disco and electro brought by some local legends. Keep an eye out for Adam Munnings of Lunchbox Candy, and Daniel Wang, a familiar face at parties like CockTail d'Amore and Horse Meat Disco. It might take a new party time to find it’s crowd but I have no doubts the music will be fabulous and the vibes exquisite.

  • Weekend Picks Dec 22 - 25

So you’re avoiding your family Christmas to party in Berlin too? Sick. Friday 22. єχυ∂є Studio dB It’s a Christmas miracle; we’ve got a new party on the roster. Brought to you by exude; a brand new collective of queer trans & non-binary artists. We’ve got a night of art, food, drinks and dancing ahead of us. We can expect some genre-bending, groovy, percussive dance music from residents mx.pinky and Miri Malek, and their guest Alada. Not only will there be food by Afropot Berlin (included with a ticket) and a variety of artistic displays, there will also be an awareness booth providing info on free counseling and health services available for queer folks, BIPOC and SWers. If you’re looking for a night of community, joy, and care, this would be it. Subverted. curated by Nicki Black Mystery Location What better way to celebrate the solstice than with a dark queer occult ritual in a mysterious venue. Curated by Subverted resident Nicki Black, you can expect a brilliant, harsh and experimental blend of dark ambient, noise, broken beat, and contemporary industrial. Not for the faint of heart, but Subverted always brings in a really sweet (if sometimes scary-looking) crowd. This might just be the perfect anti-christmas party to give you some much-needed relief from the season of gaudy colours and never-ending tinkly-bell-bullsh*t music. Saturday 23. GAYHANE SO36 SO36 presents their classic QueerOriental Dancefloor night; a queer party bringing you a mix of Turkish, Arabic, Greek and Hebrew pop. Still pending partydyke review but a little bird told me the atmosphere at the House of Halay is always pure joy and community. Monday 25. Anti Xmas: A SLIME get together Crack Bellmer The good folks of SLIME, the sweetest wee party collective, are bringing together the orphans this Christmas. Come out to Crack Bellmer for a yuletide boogie with Christmassy cocktails, sparkles, shenanigans, and, of course, some grooves served by some of our favorites: Multicœur, Chrispy and DJ Frottée (DJ BONEY S & zikade). I’ll even wear my sexy Santa outfit. You’re welcome.

  • Party Dyke Guide to a Not-Terrible Queer New Year in Berlin

Well bois, the Jahresende looms once more. What are the Berlin dykes doing this Silvester? Where are we popping the Rottkapchen and using this stupid holiday as an excuse to kiss our friends? Where, oh where, are the vibes? Okay, not-so-hot take—New Year’s Eve sucks. “But Party Dyke," you say, "NYE is a party night. Those are kind of your whole thing.” No my child; good parties are my thing. And on NYE, those are a scarce resource indeed. NYE parties are overly expensive and overly packed. The straight parties tend to have all the best venues booked out. There’s so much pressure to have fun you end up fixated on a stressful deadline. You only have a few hours to have all the fun, drink all the bubbly and kiss someone at midnight, so the next thing you know you're passing out in your buddy’s bed, wearing someone else's shirt and no pants, with little recollection of anything after trying to kiss your friend’s ex at 2AM. You spend three days trying to tell yourself that your impassioned rendition of Wanna Be was cute (it was not). You make a series of New Year’s resolutions and the only one you might hold to is no more Sambouca. The best way to have a less disastrous start to your 2024 is obviously to organize a party yourself, keep it chill, keep expectations low, and treat the night like a drowsy afterparty from this shitshow of a year. Bring together your pack of queers, your gaggle of lesbians, your whole assorted chosen family in the apartment with the chillest neighbors, or maybe chip in for a little bar night. Just don't bother going to a big club on New Year's of all days; for the night is dark and full of cis straight dudes trying for a midnight smooch (I advise the stop, drop, and roll method, they find it very confusing and that gives you time to escape). But if you must ring in another year (and knowing my demographic you must), here are the best ways to celebrate: GEGEN • PRNCPTL • RSO OXI NYE - 37 hours Monster Ronsons New Year Karaoke Merry Stripmas – It Only Takes One • Berlin Strippers Collective GEGEN • PRNCPTL • RSO Sun 23:59 - Tue 10:00 Two days of sexy chaos. Gegen and Pornceptual are both high-scale queer/ sex-positive parties but certainly lean towards the cis-gay-dude crowd. That being said there's a pretty stacked lineup gracing RSO's exquisite sound system; I think fka.m4a might be the star of the show. There will be a FLINTA* Playground and a present awareness team, we love to see it. The party opens for midnight, it closes... sometime in the ether after 30 hours in a club turns your brain to happy mush. OXI NYE - 37 hours Sun 22:00 - Tue 11:00 Well, it's not an explicitly queer party but... look at that lineup. It's like a little WHOLE festival right there. If you've been following my sage guidance, you know these folks from parties like Buttons, Lecken, Dissident and so many of our favorite nights. We've got Carly Zeng, Stella Zekri, KILLA, Jacob Meehan, 131 BPM & PLS (KEYZ) and so many more favourites on the queer scene. OXI tends to bring in a really sweet and queer crowd, and I know that lineup will too. Monster Ronsons New Year Karaoke Sunday 18.00 - Monday 06.00 You might as well treat the early hours of the New Year the same way I spend every good Monday night. Drunkenly box-hopping my way across the Monster Ronsons karaoke booths, bothering strangers with the complete Avril Lavigne discography, spilling beer on the karaoke machine, and dancing with drag queens. I'm particularly fond of the bit at the end of the night where people start letting out all the feels with tearful Adele songs. Let it out buddy, karoake is cheaper than therapy after all. Merry Stripmas – It Only Takes One • Berlin Strippers Collective The proper way to observe the New Year is, of course, with strippers. The Berlin Strippers Collective is taking over the main stage of the Volksbühne on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day for a new rendition of their hit show; Merry Stripmas. A tale of care and resistance, a political manifesto, a testament to the cultural impact of strippers on Berlin nightlife, and a protest against the stigmatization and criminalization of sex work. See some tits. Leave some tips. Head home happy. In conclusion I will once again advise you to keep NYE chill. Rage it up the weekend before or after. Where? I'll let you know. A Merry Happy Humbug to you all.

  • Weekend Picks Dec 15 - 17

Babes. Love. Darling. You’ve got one week to make your dramatic, cheesy, queer hallmark Christmas romance a reality. Here’s where the FLINTA*s will be found: Friday 15. GG VYBE presents: SHERRYAERIS DIRRTY THIRTY ÆVE Who doesn’t love a messy birthday bash? No better way to send off Sagittarius season than with a dirty thirty: a triennium extravagant. Bringing hip hop, baile funk and afrobeats to jersey club and arabbass from some of our favorite folks, and of course the star of the night themself @sheeeyaeri. Were that not enough we'll have @queenofvirginity hosting, @mandhlandubiwa dancing and a merch stand of queer artists offering wares to peruse. Dress up or dress down: just dress hot. Hoe__mies Club Ost Club Ost is the place to hoe this Friday night, with the hoe__mies putting on the biggest event yet. They’re giving us two dance floors with some creative and energetic genre-blends from FLINTA* artists like our own @hanaby___ and @heymeg10. Dornika Premiere Party - Nobody FckiNG Owns My Body 90 Mil Come celebrate the premiere of Dornika's third music video for NOBODY, the queer anthem you can't have missed in Berlin queerdom. Not only do we get a live performance from the star of the night but top-tier DJs like @flemish.fetish @adammunnings and Miri Malek. There will be food, flash tattoos, tooth gems and merch, so if you don’t come looking fabulous at least you’ll leave that way. (but you probably should because there’s a prize for best outfit). Saturday 16. Golosa: Physical ://about blank Golosa's lighting up Saturday night with two floors of techno and progressive house. A lineup that is stacked to the rafters with familiar favorites; @amperia__ @mazedk__ @kh38___ @2faro_berlin @belen.zer … Great folks, caring crowd, exquisite vibes. BLVSH Crack Bellmer If you’re looking for a slightly more chill Saturday night to enjoy some excellent music brought by a favorite local FLINTA* DJ collective: BLVSH. Great lineup all round. Keep an eye out for @ka_is_playin, that’ll be a set to remember, and probably the only good reason to be wandering through the dystopian wasteland that is RAW-Gelände on a Saturday night.

Y’all there are so many dykey pursuits I’ve had to add an entire extra page to the roster. • Weekend Picks Dec 8 - 10

My dears. My darlings. The weekend awaits. Friday 8. Interzone Mystery NK location (check telegram) Interzone never fails to bring impeccable vibes. A real party for queer techno lovers. Not terribly familiar with the lineup this time but from what I’ve seen of Suzanne, that set will slap. Interzone is all about resistance to Berlin’s club scene become too “cold cash” because Berlin’s queer party culture can do better than that. Democratic prices, brings in a friendly queer crowd, with a caring crew to welcome you in. Saturday 9. Queer Garten ÆVE There’s nothing better than a costume party, and boy have I been waiting for an opportunity to wear my sexy Santa costume. As usual the “FLINTA* and Friends Night” will bring us a healthy mix of techno, house, indie, and pop, so there’s a little something for everyone. And with Lana Diamond hosting we can expect to be entertained. To top off the festivities there will be bonfires, performance, bodypainting and Glühwein galore. Sunday 3. HIGH Expectations ://about blank HIGH is back for another "dark genderfuck techno magic ritual" with a fantastic all-FLINTA* DJ lineup, including some local favorites like Amperia and Maze DK. The atmosphere at their Summer Wagonplatz party was really sweet, chatty and caring. Queer and sex-positive, with a hanky code for cruising (hankies purchasable on-site). Better still the party is in benefit of alQaws, a charity supporting queer Palestinians. Great music. Great folks. Great cause. Great vibes.

  • Party Dyke Bar Nights Week Dec 4-9

Another fine week to be a dyke in Berlin. But can we collectively agree to stop planning more FLINTA* events on a Tuesday? I can't bar crawl every week. @unicornopenmic @silverfuture_bar @leslefam @tristezakiezkneipe @tipsy_bear_berlin @sib.linx @stueck_36 @cplusbakery

  • Weekend Picks Nov 30 - Dec 3

Quite a weekend. Starting off early with a handful of small queer parties to warm up for a big FLINTA* bash, a Latinx Saturday and a Sunday party that starts as Saturday night ends (3pm). Thursday 30. Femme Fatale arkaoda Femme Fatale is all about giving space to femme, trans and non-binary live performers and dj's, and their lineup this week is absolutely stacked. If you’re out and about in Berlin you’ve surely heard Dornika, it’s always a bop when  @rafush___ is on decks, and there will be a performance by @guttergucci,who scares me in a good way… plus many more icons of FLINTA* nightlife. Gender Bender Zur Klappe Love to see a new party on the books. And this one is promising quite a show; lights and lasers and queerness and hedonism and harmony and, of course, techno. It’s a night to experiment with drag, with cross-dressing, or just expressing your transness with grand affair (at least that’s how you can skip the queue). Sounds like a vibe Friday 1. Panty SO36 Another rendition of our favourite party at SO36. A night for FLINTA* (and friends) hosted by local legends @lolitavavoom and @foxgloveberlin. A night to dance like a mad thing, to rock n’ roll, pop, hip hop, and disco (what's bad for the soles is good for the soul). This one’s a big one because you can expect a @magicdykeberlin  showing. Music, dance, burlesque, strippers: what more can you ask for? Maybe a lapdance. Saturday 2. Puticlub ÆDEN Puti’s back for one last blast of the year; a queer latinx party to bring a bit of bounce to your Saturday night. Alongside some special guests to shake up the night, you have some familiar faces like residents @isagtofficial and @PvssyDivx who always bring a fun and creative sound. It does tend to have more of a cis-gay-dude showing relative to FLINTA* folks but it’s a really sweet crowd nonetheless, and alas it’s the last Puti until March so definitely not one to miss. Sunday 3. Royal Highness Fitzroy Hear ye, hear ye. The court of queerdom convenes again this Sunday afternoon, 3-3. The music vibe is a joyful cacophony; a wonderful experiment; nothing safe; “fast transitions, unconventional sounds, stimulating vocals, bleeps, crunches, provoking samples and hypnotising drums.” Pending party dyke review but I sense a vibe. Rejoice peasants.

  • Weekend Picks November 24-26

There’s so much FLINTA* hijinks afoot this weekend I want to split myself in three. Catch you out there. - xoxo your local festivities lesbian. Friday 24. Nov Fuck Your Gender Untertage Well my dears, this one’s the pick of the month. Their last party was a blast and I have no doubt this one will be just as good. The @nippleliberationarmy is taking over Untertage for the last time for a cute and caring FLINTA* party before the venue closes. A truly queer, welcoming, sex-positive party with a thoughtful awareness concept. Very excited to catch DJ Ipek again, but I expect the full lineup will impress. Free your body, free your mind, free your tits. FACILITATE Zur Klappe Now call me crazy but DnB does not get the love it deserves in Berlin. And if you're looking for a safe space for FLINTA* folks in that scene… well that’s why DJ Northern and DJ Flounce are presenting you with a brand new FLINTA* party in the cosy quarters of Zur Klappe. Knowing those two, it should be a lively night. Shake up the scene my dears. Saturday 25. Nov Girls Town Haubentaucher Girlstown: an institution of Berlin’s FLINTA* nightlife. An evening to wreak havoc, create drama and flail like some kind of exotic bird of paradise caught in a mating ritual on a documentary where David Attenborough’s voice is inexplicably replaced by Nikki Minaj. If you can dodge your ex, your other ex, and the three people you ghosted, it’ll be awesome. Imaginary Friend Fitzroy You know when you’re at a party that’s not explicitly queer, but everyone you meet there is? And the music is so good you cancel your Sunday stitch’n’bitch? And you fall in love with a DJ, and then another DJ, and then some kindly stranger offers you a cigarette and now you’re kinda in love with them too? That’s just the imaginary friend vibe. They’ve got a hell of a lineup but I’ve got to say, I would show up for DJ Fart in the Club any day, any night, any hour. Sunday 26. Nov Layers Fitzroy Our pick for Sunday has to be the Layers day rave over at Fitzroy. Really excited for what I’ve seen of the Layers crew’s events so far, bringing lovely music and lovely folks to their parties. I’m certain the HEDDA b2b JAARA set will slap and DJ Eivissa will kill it if her set at WET last August is anything to go by. Great way to groove out your Sunday evening.

  • Re:mise's Closing and the Culling of Berlin Nightlife

This week is the Re:mise Closing Weekend and you can't say it's not going out with a bang. Running from Thursday to Monday (Nov 16-20), they've got a back-to-back program of booming club nights, including Body Language, a queer party you can find high on my picks for the weekend. While it's sure to be a hell of a farewell, and an opportunity to salute the nights of joy that Re:mise has brought over the past two years, it can only be bitter-sweet at best. At worst, it is an alarm bell ringing out a warning for the fate of Berlin's smaller clubs. Re:mise announced its closure two months ago, citing accelerated gentrification as the reason their lease could not be extended. This is not the first time Re:mise (previously Fiese Remise) has been forced to shutter up shop. While we can hope that they will be able to come through on their hopes to open new doors in the not-too-distant future, and we'll be waiting keenly for their return, it bodes poorly for the future of venues like Re:mise that host creative and innovative nightlife ventures including queer parties like Body Language, SWEAT or Fluidity. After Berlin’s nightlife has been thoroughly ravaged by COVID-19, it has become ever-harder for party collectives and nightlife entrepreneurs to find accommodating venues below the level of the big-name commercial clubs. Some relief was provided in the redesignation of nightclubs as cultural institutions, which allowed clubs certain benefits, including lower taxes to give venues some fighting chance against the overwhelming force of gentrification. It is now evident that stronger initiatives to protect Berlin's Clubkultur are needed. We need not even mention the looming specter of the A100 expansion to recognize this. There is a need for city politics to reflect the plain and palpable reality that nightlife is not only an important cornerstone of Berlin's economy; providing jobs, drawing in tourists (for better or worse), and boosting local business, but also fundamentally at the heart of this city's identity. A part of its identity closely tied to its status as a queer haven. Club culture is meaningful culture. Nightlife spaces are political spaces. And for queer folks, history shows us, this is all the more true. Losing a few small clubs each year is part of the ephemeral nature of nightlife; the rise and fall of venues are a natural part of the scene's evolution. But we have to be weary, in light of a veritable culling of clubs, whether this is not an extinction event.
